Updated: 2009-04-30 10:46 "Everything begins with Expo," goes the famous motto. The World Expo is recognized as the third-largest event in the world in terms of cultural and economic impact. Though it ranks behind the FIFA World Cup and Olympic Games in grandeur, it boasts of a longer history than both. The first Expo, called "Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations" or just "The Great Exhibition", was the brainchild of Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, and held in 1851. Being the first international exhibition of manufactured products, it influenced the development of many aspects of society, including art and design, education, international trade and relations, and even tourism. It gave birth to several World's Fairs, which eventually evolved into the World Expo. The main attractions at the World Expos are always the national pavilions. Local culture, advanced technology and the latest achievements of different economies, too, are showcased at the event.
