TAIPEI -- Taiwan would allow mainland actors to appear in locally produced TV series under a one-year trial program in an attempt to promote the film and television industry and create more jobs for TV artists, according to Taiwan's "information office".

The plan could create new jobs for 375 Taiwan TV performers each year, an official with the "information office" said.

Because mainland actors and actresses haven't been allowed to appear in Taiwan-made TV series, these shows weren't popular in the mainland, the office said. Likewise, Taiwan performers were little known among mainland audiences.

Shows produced under this program could be broadcast on both markets, the office said.

The office said the plan would be sent to the upper administration office soon for approval.
