HONG KONG -- The Center for Food Safety of Hong Kong Monday announced that the processing of applications for importing poultry and poultry products from Germany except Saschen would resume with immediate effect.

The center suspended the processing of applications following confirmation of an outbreak of the highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 virus on a poultry farm in Saschen in October last year.

"In view of the control measures taken by Germany and the fact that there are no other cases of avian influenza reported, we decided to resume processing applications," a spokesman for the center said.

"We are monitoring the situation in Saschen and restrictions on imports from the province will remain for the time being."
