Wen visits medics and injured in quake zone

On the eve of Chinese Lunar New year, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday visited medics and the injured in Deyang, the city among the hardest-hit in the devastating May 12 earthquake that killed nearly 70,000 people.

Braving freezing temperature, Wen made the People's Hospital of Deyang, the city's biggist, his first stop in the city when he arrived there at 9:15 a.m.

He expressed his condolences and solidarity for those still hospitalized for injuries inflicted in the disaster.

In a five-minute address at the square in front of the hospital, he thanked hospital staff for their efforts to treat the injured in the aftermath of the quake. He also wished them a happy Spring Festival and a properous future.

Wen left the hospital at 9:40 a.m.
