Sanlu ex-boss gets life for milk scandal

The milk was then sold to Shijiazhuang-based Sanlu Group, and was used to produce baby formula that killed six infants and caused kidney problems for 290,000 others, according to figures from the Ministry of Health. Geng Jinping, who added melamine into raw milk, was also sentenced to death for the same charge. During the trial, he even knelt before the court, begging for victims' forgiveness. His brother Geng Jinzhu, who assisted in adding melamine, was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Gao Junjie, who was found last year designing melamine-tainted "protein powder" in an underground factory in Zhengding county near Shijiazhuang, received the capital punishment with two years of probation. His wife Xiao Yu was sentenced to five years in prison. Two other people, Xue Jianzhong and Zhang Yanjun, were also accused of employing workers to produce about 200 tons of the powder, adding the chemical to raw milk and selling supplies to Sanlu for a profit of more than one million yuan. Xue and Zhang received life imprisonment and 15 years sentence respectively.
