BERN -- China attaches great importance to its relationship with Switzerland and is willing to enhance their bilateral cooperation, Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong said Monday.

"The current Sino-Swiss relations are favorable...I hope the two countries can keep making efforts to further enhance their bilateral cooperation," Liu said during a meeting with Swiss President Pascal Couchepin.

Political trust between the two countries is deepening, and cooperation in the fields of trade, environment, information and personnel training have been very fruitful, Liu said.

Educational and scientific cooperation constitutes an important part of the Sino-Swiss relations, and the Chinese government is willing to work with its Swiss counterpart in further exploring the potentialities of cooperation in these two fields, Liu said.

Couchepin also expressed satisfaction with the long-term friendly cooperation between the two countries.

He praised the Chinese government for taking responsible measures in dealing with the international financial crisis.

He also stressed that the Swiss government will stick to the one-China policy, recognizing Taiwan and Tibet as inseparable parts of China's territory.

Liu arrived in Switzerland on Saturday for an official visit. She will also attend a UN conference on education in Geneva on Tuesday.
