BEIJING  -- China's central state-owned enterprises (SOEs) donated 3.88 billion yuan (565.3 million US dollars) and relief materials valued at 2.07 billion yuan through June, said the industry watchdog here on Friday.

Liu Nanchang, deputy director general of the bureau of performance assessment of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC), said employees from central SOEs donated 1.337 billion yuan.

He added the money and materials were used to help survivors of the May 12 deadly earthquake and the central SOEs in the quake-battered areas and their reconstruction.

The quake, which had killed 69,196 as of Friday noon, caused 41.4 billion yuan in direct economic loss to central SOEs.

China currently has 150 central SOEs directly under the control of the SASAC, with total assets of 14.6 trillion yuan as of November.

He added 2.6 million Communist Party of China (CPC) members in central SOEs had donated nearly 800 million yuan in "special Party membership dues" to earthquake-hit regions through June.

The SASAC was considering capital injection into those severely-hit enterprises in the quake zone that had met with difficulties in daily operation, Liu said.

Figures showed the quake-stricken provinces of Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu and Yunnan had received 223,200 tons of relief grain and 7,217 tons of edible oil by July 1, most of which was provided by central SOEs.
