Overseas Chinese donate for quake-hit homeland

Overseas Chinese in many countries have actively made donations for the survivors of this week's devastating earthquake in their homeland.
As of Wednesday, overseas Chinese and Chinese companies operating in Namibia have donated over 50,000 US dollars for the disaster regions back home.
In Greece, overseas Chinese handed to the Chinese embassy the first sum donation of over 6,000 euros (some 9,200 dollars) on Wednesday.
In Belgium, overseas Chinese have set up a special fund for donation and called on all overseas Chinese living in the country to donate a school for the disaster regions.
In Spain and Hungary, overseas Chinese have collected some 278,000 dollars and 150,000 dollars respectively for the disaster regions as of Wednesday.
In Los Angeles in the United States, a charity performance will be held Thursday by overseas Chinese artists and Hollywood actors to raise funds for quake-hit regions and a donation-collecting dinner party is slated for next week in the city.
In Kuwait and Katar, overseas Chinese also reached into their pockets for the disaster regions. Chinese diplomats in Albania also made donations.
A 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked southwest China's Sichuan Province on Monday afternoon. The death toll has risen to 14,866, latest government figures show.
