President Hu attends banquet hosted by Japanese PM

Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao attended an informal banquet hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda on Tuesday evening. During the dinner, both sides had cordial talks on increasing friendship between the two peoples and promoting mutual cooperation.

The two leaders agreed that strengthening good neighborly relations and cooperation is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and is conducive to peace and security in Asia and the rest of the world.

Fukuda said he wishes for a successful holding of the Beijing Olympics and the Shanghai World Expo. The Japanese Prime Minister also expressed Japanese people's love of Chinese pandas. Hu Jintao said China is to offer a pair of giant pandas to Japan for joint research.
