Luoyang is playing an increasingly important role in the development strategy of central cities in Henan Province.

The city is known as a "historical city", "culture-oriented tourism city", "sub-center of central China city groups", "R&D center" and "logistics hub of central and west China".

With its GDP hitting 111.1 billion yuan at the end of 2005, the city ranked the fourth among all cities in the province in terms of their economic power.

In the five years from 2006, Luoyang will fully tap its advantages and implement the scientific outlook on development in building a stronger economy, a richer culture, better living environment and a city of harmony.

To achieve its goals, the city will take measures to transform its growth mode and highlight  technical innovation and opening up.
