China shares close 2.53% higher

BEIJING -- Chinese shares managed to stage a moderate technical rebound on Wednesday with transaction volume increasing noticeably.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange concluded the daily trading at 3,761.60 on Wednesday, up 92.71 points, or 2.53 percent, over the previous close.

The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange ended at at 13,044.20, gaining 555.18 points, or 4.45 percent, from the previous trading day.

The Hushen 300 Index tracking the performance of both Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges closed at 3,888.86, up 124.91 points, or 3.32 percent.

Combined turnover on the two bourses amounted to 135.43 billion yuan (US$19.2 billion) on Wednesday, up from the 119.12 billion yuan on Tuesday.

Gains outnumbered losses by 769 to 84 in Shanghai and by 607 to 64 in Shenzhen.
