Yu Zhengsheng appointed Party head of Shanghai

Xi Jinping no longer serves concurrently as the Party secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The post is now held by Yu Zhengsheng, according to the CPC Central Committee. Xi Jinping has been elected a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Yu Zhengsheng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, no longer acts concurrently as Party secretary of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC, according to a decision of the CPC Central Committee.

Born in April 1945, Yu was a native of Shaoxing in east China's Zhejiang Province. Yu, who graduated from the Department of Missile Engineering, Harbin Military Engineering Institute majoring in automatic control of ballistic missiles, joined the CPC in 1964.

Before serving as Party chief of Hubei Province, Yu was Minister of Construction from 1998 to 2001. According to the CPC Central Committee decision, Luo Qingquan, governor of Hubei Province, becomes the province's new Party chief.
