BEIJING - The energy consumption of PetroChina, the country's leading oil and gas producer, fell by 18 percent in 2006 compared with that of 2000, according to a report released by the company Wednesday.

The decline saved the company 1.3 million tons of coal and 60 million cubic meters of water in 2006, the company's first Corporate Social Responsibility Report said, without giving further details.

The company completed its second Shaanxi-Beijing natural gas pipeline last year, which extends 900 kilometers with an annual capacity of 12 billion cubic meters of gas, it said.
