A Chinese mainland spokesman reiterated the mainland's consistent policy towards Taiwan at a press conference held in Beijing on Wednesday.

Li Weiyi, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said the mainland has noticed Taiwan prosecutors' indictment against Taiwan's major opposition party leader Ma Ying-jeou.

He said the mainland's polices towards Taiwan will not change after Ma's resignation from the post of Kuomintang chairman.

"Our consistent stance is that we are willing to talk with any person or party on developing relations across the Taiwan Strait and promoting peaceful reunification as long as they admit the one-China policy and 1992 Consensus," Li said.

"The Democratic Progress Party (DPP) does not change their party program, which means they have closed the door to developing relations with us," Li said.

However, he said the common DPP members are different from the very few die-hard "Taiwan independence" proponents in the DPP.

"We welcome them to visit the mainland in appropriate capacities," he said.
