Colliery flood

Seven people were trapped underground when a coal mine flooded on Tuesday night in the Benxi Autonomous County of Manchu Nationality in Northeast China's Liaoning Province, sources with the provincial coal industry administration said yesterday.

The flood occurred at Cuijingzhu Coal Mine at around 8 pm on Tuesday, affecting the adjacent Gaosihai Coal Mine and trapping seven workers underground.

Rescue work is underway, sources said.
