At least 24 miners were killed today by an explosion in a northern Chinese coal mine.

The blast occurred at 4am at the Nanshan coal mine in Shanxi Province's Lingshi County. The ignition of black powder that was underground reportedly caused the blast.

Yu Youjun, the governor of Shanxi, has rushed to the scene this morning to direct the rescue work.
