A colossal turtle found dead days ago in the sea near Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, is to be displayed in Shanghai.

Weighing more than 300 kilogrammes and with a body nearly 2 metres long, the turtle is so big it took three aquatic researchers six hours to dissect it.

Sightseers will be able to see the massive beast at the Bund Sightseeing Tunnel by New Year's Day.

Experts say an increasing number of giant turtles have been found dead over the last two years. They believe the tsunami which struck Indonesia two years ago may have triggered a change in the deep sea environment responsible for the deaths.
