French president kicks off visit

Thursday: Apart from meeting Chinese
leaders, Chirac will deliver a speech at Peking University in the afternoon and
meet a group of young Chinese and French scientists.
Friday: Chirac and his entourage will arrive in Wuhan, capital of Central
China's Hubei Province, to lay the foundation for the China-Franco Centre for
Liver Transplant at Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University and for the second
plant of Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Company Ltd, a leading China-Franco
joint venture in China.
Saturday: Chirac, whose knowledge of Chinese history has become a legend
among many Chinese, will fly to Xi'an to visit the Hanyangling Museum, where
countless pottery figurines dating back more than 2,000 years are now preserved.
He will also visit the Shaanxi History Museum to see precious relics from 13
feudal dynasties which made Xi'an their capital in ancient
times.
