24 more bodies found killed by Saomai
(Shanghai Daily) Updated: 2006-10-24 14:26 Authorities have found 24
more bodies of people killed by Typhoon Saomai in August, raising the death toll
to at least 460 in the most powerful storm to hit China in decades, Xinhua news
agency reported today.
At least 50 people are still missing and more than 800 boats that were sunk
by the August 10 storm haven't been salvaged, Xinhua said.
The latest bodies all were found in vessels that sank off Fuding, a port that
suffered at least 248 deaths when Saomai slammed into China's southeastern
coast, wrecking houses and ripping ships away from their moorings, Xinhua said.
It said salvage efforts were slowed because more difficulties appear in deep
water.
