Woman's lotus feet cause stir in store
(China Daily)
Updated: 2006-10-17 08:58 When Wang, a grandmother from a village in Fujian Province, stepped into a supermarket for the first time in Fuzhou last Friday, almost all of the hundreds of shoppers cast their eyes over her tiny feet, the like of which are rarely seen in big cities. Although Wang's feet were as small as an adult man's fists in size, the woman in her 80s walked around in the supermarket as quickly as some young people did. Wang, born in 1920, had her feet bound tightly when she was 6 as all young girls in her village were supposed to do. As there are no shoes available in stores to fit their tiny feet, for many years Wang and other elderly women in the village have made shoes themselves. The Straits Metropolis News |
