Nation welcomes draft
China "welcomes" and "supports" UN Security Council Resolution
1701 for the conflict in Lebanon, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
"China hopes concerned nations will implement the Security Council
resolution in a tangible manner and resume peace and stability in the Middle
East as soon as possible, and China will continue in its efforts towards that,"
announced the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson's Office, in response to
journalists' questions.
Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Liu Zhenmin said
after the resolution was adopted that it has "formed a good foundation for
future efforts to find a long-term political solution to the Lebanon-Israel
issue."
However, the Chinese envoy stressed that adopting the resolution
was just the first step, and the parties concerned face more arduous tasks.
