Guangdong herbal tea has become the top selling beverage in the southern Chinese province, beating international beverage giant Coca-Cola firmly into second place.

Last year alone, a total of 4 million tons of herbal tea was sold in the province while the sales of Coca Cola reached 3.17 million tons.

And the gap is likely to increase this year with sales of herbal tea having already topped 3 million tons after just six months.

Guangdong people first began drinking herbal tea in 1828 while Coca-Cola's history only dates back to 1856.
