Guangxi builts 6-mln-kw nuclear power station

The signing ceremony of the cooperation protocol in the construction of the first phase of Bailong Nuclear Power Station was held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on July 22.

Bailong Nuclear Power Station will have a capacity of 6 million kilowatts, and the first phase of the project will fulfill one third of all its capacity.

Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co,. Ltd, China Power Investment Corporation, and Guangxi Investment Group Co,. Ltd have jointly invested about 2.5 million yuan on the project, and now the three enterprises are working to make the project enlist the construction allocations envisaged under the 11th Five-Year Plan. This year will be the year of preparation, and the construction will formally start in 2008.

Liu Qibao, the Regional Party Secretary of Guangxi, said that energy is necessary for a country's survival in the future. He was very glad to see Guangxi grab the chance for a new breakthrough in the energy industry. Guangxi should build an energy network of nuclear power, water power and fire power, for a sustainable future, he said.
