Trio jailed for beating thief to death

Three men were sentenced to six years in jail after they beat a thief to death in Yunan County in Guangdong Province.

Jiang, Li and Pang were also required to pay compensation valued at a total of 56,300 yuan (US$7,040) to the victim's relatives.

The three men, who used to run a restaurant in Ducheng Township, beat Li to death when they caught him stealing from the establishment.

When sentencing the violent trio, the court took into account the fact that they gave themselves up to the police after the incident and made a full confession.
