The children, with an average age of 13, were injured in the siege and and had been scarred physically and mentally, said Yin Li, head of the Department of International Cooperation under China's Ministry of Health (MOH).

The recuperative treatment would involve both Western and traditional Chinese therapies along with entertainment activities, said Liu Dexi, president of the Traditional Chinese Hospital of Sanya.

The Chinese government will cover all the cost of the treatment, which totals 1.6 million yuan (200,000 U.S. dollars), as it falls within the Year of Russia in China.

The treatment highlighted the friendly cooperation between China and Russia as well as the mutual friendship between the peoples of the two countries, said Yin.

The children are scheduled to return to Russia on May 30.
