Strong quake shakes Taiwan

A strong earthquake shook southeastern Taiwan on Sunday, the local weather bureau said, but no serious damage or injuries were immediately reported.

The 6.2-magnitude quake was centered in the Pacific Ocean, 20 kilometers (12 miles) east of Taitung county, at a depth of 12 kilometers (7.2 miles), the weather bureau said.

Taitung is 250 kilometers (155 miles) southeast of the capital, Taipei.
