Nov 29, 1948 - Jan 31, 1949: Peking-Tianjin Campaign

Between November 29, 1948 and January 31, 1949, Lin Biao, Luo Ronghuan and Nie Rongzhen launched the Peking-Tianjin Campaign which wiped out or reorgnized the 520,000-strong Kuomintang army and basically liberated the whole territory of North China. Meanwhile, on January 31, 1949, Peking (now Beijing) was liberated peacefully.
