Feb 24, 1950: "An order on forbidding opium drugs"
On Feb 24, 1950 the Government Administration Council issued "an order on forbidding opium drugs", announcing that all parts of the country were not allowed to manufacture, traffic and sell opium drugs, and whoever violated the regulations would be strictly punished in addition to the confiscation of their opium drugs. Local people were told to hand over any opium drugs in their possession by the deadline and those who smoked were told to register with the authorities and to stop smoking as soon as possible. Health authorities at all levels were told to be prepared to offer drug treatment and to promote effective drug prescriptions. By the end of 1952, due to the prohibition of opium by the People's Government and a mass movement to control drugs, the rampant activities in China of growing, manufacturing, trafficking and taking drugs were basically wiped out.
Feb 24—March 8, 1978: The Fifth CPPCC National Committee holds its first meeting in Beijing
The Conference adopted the "CPPCC Constitution" and the resolution, and elected Deng Xiaoping as Chairman of the Fifth CPPCC National Committee. The convening of this conference had significance for strengthening the co-operation among the CPC, democratic parties and people without party affiliation, consolidating the people's democratic united front, and restoring and improving the multi-party cooperation and political consultation system under the leadership of the CPC.
Feb 24—March 4, 1981: The third plenary meeting of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection is held in Beijing
The Conference resolution stated that the question on the style of the ruling party proposed by Chen Yun was a question about the party's life and death, and had great significance for the building of the party and for discipline inspection work.
