From May 1948 to March 1949, the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese People's Liberation Army set up their headquarters in Xibaipo village.

Located 80km (50 miles) northwest of Shijazhuang, Xibaipo is a small village located in Pingshan County, Hebei Province. From May 1948 to March 1949, the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese People's Liberation Army set up their headquarters in this village. It represents a transitional period of historical significance for the Chinese revolution. The command post set up in Xibaipo was the last one in rural area before Chairman Mao and the Party's Central Committee entered Beiping and liberated the whole country. The Xibaipo Memorial Museum was built to commemorate this revered site.
