What others thought was just an exercise routine to lose weight was, for Chen Yurong, a way to save her son's life.
The 51-year-old Hubei native knew she had to improve the condition of her liver, which had accumulated too much fat, so she could let doctors cut it out - and transplant it into her son's body.
So in February she went on a diet, taking in rice and vegetables only, and marched about 10 km every day along a dike near her home in Jiang'an, central China's Hubei Province.
Seven months later, she lost 8 kg and her liver was fit enough for the transplant.
The result, which was even broadcast on national television CCTV on Nov. 3, was a successful 14-hour operation to save her son from life-threatening liver disease.
