Kidman's concern at critical biography
Nicole Kidman is concerned about a new biography of her by a man who admitted he had a crush on her.
Respected movie critic and historian David Thomson has just released the unauthorised book, based only on previous knowledge and a phone interview.
In Nicole Kidman, he makes several allegations about her personal life and rise to fame. He indicates she used her marriage to Tom Cruise to boost her career. He also claims that while making Eyes Wide Shut with Cruise she decided she could operate without him.
"She realised she could be as big as him if she became as strong and self-centred," he told the Daily Mail. "He wanted a beautiful, bright, obedient consort. She wanted a teacher. It worked. Then it stopped." Now, Thomson suggests, Kidman will find it difficult to dedicate herself to new husband Keith Urban.
Meanwhile, Kidman herself claims the writer only had minimal access to her and misled her about his intentions. "Nicole has never met David Thomson," said her spokeswoman Wendy Day. "She has only spoken to him briefly on the phone about her acting processes and various films.
"He's a well-respected film writer and she accepted the interview only because she was under the impression he was writing a series of film essays."
In previous publication The Whole Equation: A History Of Hollywood, Thomson wrote that he had huge affection for Kidman.
