Chinese vendors driving India's smartphone market

India's smartphone market posted a 17.1 percent sequential rise in shipments to 27.5 million units in second quarter this year, with China's Lenovo, Xiaomi and Vivo driving the growth, market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) said on Friday.

After two successive quarters of decline, the market finally saw growth. In the first quarter of 2016, smartphone makers had shipped 23.5 million units.

According to IDC, shipments rose 3.7 percent from 26.5 million units in the second quarter of 2015.

Samsung continued to lead the market with 25.1 percent share, registering 10.9 percent sequential growth month on month and 15 percent growth year on year.

Following Samsung, Micromax, Lenovo Group, Intex and Reliance Jio posted market shares of 12.9 percent, 7.7 percent, 7.1 percent and 6.8 percent respectively.
