COPENHAGEN - China Classification Society (CCS) opened on Tuesday a new office in Copenhagen, Denmark, to provide services for the shipping, shipbuilding, offshore exploration and related industries.

Denmark has since become the third country after Sweden and Norway to have a CCS office in the Nordic region.

Sun Feng, vice president of CCS, said at the office opening ceremony that Denmark plays a key role in the shipping industry, with its shipping companies undertaking around one tenth of the overall world trade.

Meanwhile, Danish marine equipment rank high in the global market thanks to the emphasis on high-tech, eco-friendly and energy efficient solutions, Sun added.

"Maritime cooperation is certainly one of the key sectors in the bilateral exchanges," Sun said, noting that the Copenhagen office will strengthen cooperation and communication with Danish industries and provide better technical support and service to clients.

Founded in 1956, CCS is the specialized organization of China to provide classification services for the shipping, shipbuilding, offshore exploration and related manufacturing industries and marine insurance.

Andreas Nordseth, director general of Danish Maritime Authority, said China and Denmark have a long history in maritime cooperation and dialogue, and share common interests when it comes to environment protection and safety at sea.

"With the building of the new Copenhagen office, we are expanding our cooperation between our two nations," Nordseth said.

CCS is a full member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and one of the major international classification societies. Headquartered in Beijing, CCS has about 4,100 employees and over 80 offices both at home and abroad.
