China's largest on-demand car service Didi Chuxing said on Monday that the number of its daily orders has exceeded 10 million for the first time.

The new record makes Didi Chuxing China's second-largest online platform by the number of daily orders only after e-commerce giant Alibaba Group's Taobao marketplace, said the company's statement.

The company, which was set up about three-and-a-half years ago, is in a cutthroat competition in China with Uber Technologies Inc.

Cheng Wei, chief executive officer of Didi Chuxing, said the company will further increase the efficiency of travelling by cars in urban China.

"In the past three years, Didi used the Internet to connect vehicles. In the next three years, we will use big data and artificial intelligence to maneuver cars on our platform," he said, adding users are expected to be able to carpool not only in its private cars but also in its partnered taxis and chauffeur services.
