New stats released today shows the toll road network in China suffered losses of around $11 billion through the whole of last year.
The Ministry of Transportation says 2013 revenue hit 365 billion yuan.
However, expenditures topped 430 billion yuan.
The ministry says 80-percent of the money went to pay back loans, while the rest went into operational management and taxes.
Toll roads, considered generally expensive in China, have become the life-blood of China's transportation infrastructure network.
It's virtually impossible to take a trip by vehicle from one city to the next without having to pay a toll.
