Brazil will levy a five-year anti-dumping duty on Chinese tires, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

The duty will be levied according to the weight of the tires and ranges from $1.08 to $2.17 per kilo.

The China Rubber Industry Association said a Brazilian anti-dumping investigation into Chinese tires started last year. The investigation mainly focused on 13-inch and 14-inch Chinese tires for cars.

In 2008 and 2009, Brazil conducted an anti-dumping investigation and levied duties on cars imported from China.

Besides China, Brazil has conducted anti-dumping investigations on passenger car tires produced by other countries.

Statistics show that Brazilian tire production in the first four months of this year increased by 4 percent compared to the same time last year, while Brazilian car production increased by 17 percent.

Brazil said in June it was conducting anti-dumping investigations on passenger car tires imported from South Korea, Thailand, South Africa, Russia and Japan.
