China sincere about resolving disputes with EU

BEIJING - China has shown sincerity about resolving its dispute with the European Union (EU) on photovoltaic (PV) imports from China, the country's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Thursday.

As the PV industry weighs on China's foreign trade, the Chinese government and enterprises have made every effort to resolve the solar panel dispute through talks, MOC spokesman Shen Danyang said.

Vice-Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan, also China's International Trade Representative, held talks with EU trade officials in Brussels early this week on trade disputes over Chinese solar panel products and wireless telecom network.

Shen said the two sides expressed a desire to cope with recent trade frictions through talks.

"China has fulfilled its responsibilities," Shen added. "The key to preventing more frictions now depends on the further actions of EU."

The European Commission, the EU's executive arm, backed a proposal this month to impose punitive tariffs averaging 47 percent on imports of Chinese solar panels to prevent alleged "dumping" in the European market. Also this month, it proposed opening anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations into mobile telecom equipment imported from China.
