Coca-Cola China System donates 10m yuan to Lushan earthquake relief

Following its donation of 2.4 million bottles of water to the Lushan Earthquake relief efforts on April 20, the Coca-Cola China System on April 21 announced the donation of 8 million yuan to the China Women's Development Foundation to help local women improve their livelihoods after the earthquake. This brings the total monetary value of the Coca-Cola System's donation to the Lushan disaster area in Sichuan up to 10 million yuan.

At 8:02 am on April 20, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the county of Lushan in Sichuan province, an event that deeply touched all staff in Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola's Ya'an local sales center diverted its entire stock of product for disaster relief as soon as they heard the news of the earthquake. The first batch of Ice Dew water arrived at the affected area for local relief efforts at 5 pm on the same day. Meanwhile, Coca-Cola Sichuan and Chongqing immediately devoted all of their production capacity to produce Ice Dew water to send to the affected area. Water is one of the most essential aspects of disaster relief and these products are now being continually shipped to the disaster area.

David G. Brooks, President of Coca-Cola Greater China and Korea, said: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this natural disaster. The Coca-Cola China System immediately donated 2.4 million bottles of drinking water in support of local rescue efforts. Furthermore, we understand the long-term challenges of rebuilding people's lives after the immediate disaster efforts are completed. We are thus donating 8 million yuan to the China Women's Development Foundation as our small part to help earthquake-impacted women to improve their livelihoods, and as a part of our 5 by 20 Program."

The 5 by 20 Program is Coca-Cola's global women's aid initiative, designed to support women in advancing and bettering their families.

Since its return to China in 1979, Coca-Cola and its bottling plants have made countless efforts in supporting local communities and local charity programs. In particular, the Coca-Cola China System contributed 100 million in total for rebuild efforts after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, and all of those projects had been completed by 2011.
