China Mobile Ltd, the nation’s biggest telecom operator in terms of subscribers, said that more than 25 million mobile phones compliant with its 3G network had been sold as of June.

The company also expects to sell more than 60 million TD-SCDMA mobile phones this year, said Yuan Lihua, deputy general manager of China Mobile’s terminal subsidiary, at a Beijing forum on Monday.

Yuan said there are about 300 industry partners cooperating with China Mobile to explore business opportunities in the TD-SCDMA industry.

TD-SCDMA is a homegrown 3G telecommunication standard promoted by China Mobile.

More than 10 mid to low-end TD-SCDMA chipsets will hit the market in 2013, including products from Qualcomm, Media Tek Inc and Leadcore Technology Co Ltd, he added.

Xi Guohua, chairman of China Mobile Ltd, said it hopes to launch its TD-SCDMA handsets almost at the same time as phones with WCDMA and CDMA2000 technology, which are sold by the company’s domestic rivals.

In addition, the TD-SCDMA handsets will have the same quality and the same price as its rivals, Xi said at the 2012 International Mobile Internet Conference last week.
