Plan for western development approved

According to the National Development and Reform Commission, the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) for Western Development has been officially proved by the State Council, Securities Daily reported on Tuesday.
The plan set the goals for the development of western regions during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, said the paper.
The goals include the growth rates for the region's economic development and income of urban and rural residents should surpass national average, the length of newly opened railroad lines will reach 15,000 kilometers, forest coverage will be 19 percent, energy consumption per unit will decrease by 15 percent and the urbanization rate will exceed 45 percent, the paper reported.
