OSAKA - A business seminar on promoting exports of Japan's high value-added household commodities to China was held in Osaka on Monday, with representatives of nearly 70 companies in Osaka and neighboring areas participating.

The seminar, titled "Good Goods Japan",was jointly organized by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), with the aim to promote exports of quality-based daily necessaries such as high-quality cosmetics and toiletries, colorful interior goods or and well- designed kitchen items.

The seminar mainly targeted leaders of small and medium-sized firms which are manufacturing such unique products for Japan's domestic department stores or specialized interior shops, and now planning to seek trading opportunities in China.

During the meeting, Hiromi Hinata, deputy director of China and North Asia division of JETRO, told the participants that since the size of consumption in China is growing rapidly, demand for daily necessities with extra value is better expected not only in major cities but also all over the country.

Hinata stressed that among the products on sale, "safe", "environmentally friendly", and "design-oriented" items will be most welcomed especially by the younger consumers in China.

"Since many of the small or midium-sized Japanese companies have long challenged to manufacture characteristic and even " bizarre" products to attract consumers'demand, they will surely play a key role in expanding business capacity in the Chinese market in the near future," she added.

JETRO said it plans to organize similar business seminars in Shenyang, Jinan, Chongqing, Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong in 2012 and 2013, inviting local buyers to select the attractive goods.
