Toyota will begin selling the third-generation Prius in China early next year, China Business News reported. The car will be produced in cooperation with Toyota's Chinese partner FAW Group.
The Prius will be manufactured at Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor and its factories.
Chinese manufacture of the Prius began in 2005, when China was selected as the first country outside of Japan to produce the car. Manufacture of the hybrid Camry started at GAC Toyota's factories in April 2010.
Toyota is committed to promoting domestic production of hybrid-powered vehicles in China. According to CEO Akio Toyoda, the manufacturer will establish a research and development team to help achieve this goal. Toyota expects to finish making a complete domestic production chain for hybrid vehicles by around 2015.
