HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Census and Statistics Department announced on Monday that overall consumer prices rose 4.6 percent in April 2011 over the same month a year earlier, slightly higher than the corresponding increase of 4.4 percent in March.

Netting out the effects of government's one-off relief measures, the year-on-year rate of increase in the Composite CPI, the underlying inflation rate, was 4.4 percent last month, also slightly higher than March's 4.3 percent, mainly due to increases in private housing rents and food (excluding meals bought away from home).

A government spokesman said inflation is likely to climb up further in the coming months with domestic and external factors both adding to price pressures.
