Aid for poor leukemia victims

Shenhua Charity Fund launched a free treatment project to help children from poor families with acute leukemia to get free treatment, Beijing Times reported.

The fund was established by China's energy company, Shenhua Group Co Ltd, in 2010. A total of 20 youngsters will receive the treatment at the General Hospital of Armed Police Forces. The children's families will get as much as 90,000 yuan in poverty relief, the newspaper said.

About 40,000 people in China are diagnosed with leukemia every year. More than 50 percent of them are children, according to the report.
