BEIJING -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Tuesday that it had set targets for local governments to eliminate outdated industrial facilities in 2011.

Different provinces and regions will share different responsibilities in accomplishing those goals, the MIIT said.
China has been phasing out disused and outdated production facilities since last May, according to the MIIT. The government has also suspended its approval of energy-intensive, highly-polluting construction projects in 12 sectors, including iron, steel, cement and aluminum, the MIIT said.
