BEIJING -- China's press watchdog said Monday that it has handed down punishments to 99 websites and mobile WAP sites for offering pornographic novels and has ordered them to remove the content.

The General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) said in a statement that these websites offered as many as 109 pornographic novels to readers.

The websites include: www.xilu.com; www.faloo.com; www.xiaoshuo.com; www.tiexue.net and www.bokee.com.

The GAPP periodically publicizes a list of websites that been found to be offering pornographic material as part of China's nationwide anti-pornography campaign

The GAPP previously published a list of 53 websites that were offering pornographic novels in January of this year.
