Vice-premier stresses reforms and innovation

FUZHOU -- Chinese Vice-Premier Li Keqiang has underscored the importance of reforms and innovation in the country's economic transformation during an inspection tour of China's eastern Fujian province.

In the three-day trip which ended Saturday, Li called for all-round reforms and breakthroughs in key sectors to improve the country's open economy and boost the steady and relatively fast economic growth in the long-term, as well as social harmony and progress.

Li visited tea gardens and reconstructed villages that were hit by floods last year. He attached great significance to innovation in the development of the rural economy and people's livelihood, and stressed the importance of quality in food production.

Further, Li visited enterprises in the Pingtan comprehensive experiment zone and housing projects in the coastal province, asking enterprises to create opportunities from new techniques in industrial restructuring, such as competitive products and talents.

He encouraged Taiwanese-funded enterprises to contribute more to cross-Straits economic exchanges.

While visiting an affordable housing project in Fujian's provincial capital Fuzhou, Li said reforms and innovation would play a major role in the country's social development. He noted that it is important to set up an effective system that helps both project financing and management.

He said that open and fair distribution, as well as quality of the housing projects, should be enhanced to ensure a comfortable living of the people.
