SHANGHAI -- The communication-based train control technology (CBTC) is to be used on Shanghai metro line 11 beginning November 16 following a ten month trial in this East China metropolis.
The automated control system, which is the most advanced technology, ensures the safe operation of rail vehicles using data communication between various control points that make up the system, said the spokesman.
The adoption of this cutting-edge technology is a leap forward for the Shanghai metro and is designed to ease the pressure placed on the system by the huge number of train riders each day, said the spokesman.
The system uses an off-board computer to monitor all trains operating on tracks, which allows trains to be spaced closer together than on a manually controlled line since information is sent to computers aboard the trains.
Shanghai metro line 6,7,8,9 may also adopt this technology in the future, according to the spokesman.
