Chinese shares surge almost 3%

BEIJING: Driven by strong performance of the financial sector, Chinese shares surged almost 3 percent on Wednesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.71 percent to 2,582.14 points as of 2:40 pm.
