Chinese state councilor stresses international tourism co-op

BEIJING: Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong has called for more efforts to promote international exchanges and cooperation in tourism.

Liu made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 10th Global Travel and Tourism Summit in Beijing Tuesday.

Tourism was a promising and green sector with advantages in developing related sectors, providing jobs and relatively low consumption of resources, Liu said.

Boosting tourism was a key way to extend economic growth and achieve sustainable social and economic development, Liu said.

With huge potential, China's tourism was entering a golden period and the government was willing to join with other countries to boost tourism development, Liu said.

The Global Travel and Tourism Summit is a leading industrial conference held by the World Travel and Tourism Council every year, with the aim to achieve dialogues between governments and enterprises in tourism.

The summit this year was jointly sponsored by the National Tourism Administration and the Beijing municipal government.
